Christ Community Connection will host a two-part Juneteenth celebration Saturday, June 13, featuring a community service project and a family-friendly festival. This year’s event will be held in memory of the late Reverend Rainwater and Juanita Rainwater, longtime community leaders.

The day begins with a cemetery clean-up from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Carrollton Historical First Black Cemetery, 1535 W. Belt Line Road. Volunteers are encouraged to bring basic tools to assist with grounds maintenance.

The Juneteenth Festival will follow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mary Heads Carter Park, 2320 Heads Lane. The event will include live music, speakers, poetry and family activities, along with a tribute to the Rainwaters.

Hosted by Christ Community Connection in partnership with the City of Carrollton, local churches and civic groups, the event marks Juneteenth, which commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston and announced the end of slavery in Texas.
