Urban Rio Cantina & Grill, located in Historic Downtown Plano in the original Plano Ice House, will host its second annual Susan G. Komen Give Back Day Monday, Sept. 8 starting at 11 a.m., benefiting a local team of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day®.

Thousands of women and men will come together in the Dallas/Fort Worth area Nov. 7 to 9 to walk 60 miles over the course of the three-day event. Prior to the walk, each team member is asked to raise $2,300 for the cause. Urban Rio’s Give Back Day will benefit a team organized by Custer Road United Methodist Church of Plano.

“We’re very excited to partner with Urban Rio for the second year in a row,” said Taci Kistler, team captain and director of congressional care at CRUMC. “Last year, our team of nine people participated in the walk for the first time, and we hope to exceed the $15,000 we raised with the help of proceeds from the supportive team at Urban Rio.”

During Urban Rio’s Give Back Day, guests who purchase raffle tickets for $2 will be entered in a drawing for two $50 Urban Rio gift cards. All proceeds from the raffle, along with a portion of the day’s total sales, will be donated to the CRUMC team for the walk. Donations above and beyond raffle purchases also will be accepted. Raffle tickets can be purchased at Urban Rio from any server and must be paid in cash only.

“Each person in the Urban Rio family has been touched by someone who has fought the battle of cancer, and we’re thrilled to partner again with our local community member, Custer Road United Methodist Church,” said Trent Smith, chief operating officer of Urban Rio. “Our Give Back Day is not only a way for us to give back, but also to strengthen our community’s efforts in promoting what can be done to find a cure for breast cancer and save lives.”

Urban Rio’s sister restaurant, Urban Crust, also will host a Give Back Day on Sept. 22 for the CRUMC Komen 3-Day team. For more information about their event, please visit www.urbancrust.com

About Urban Rio

For diners looking for a restaurant that offers a fun night out with their family and friends, Urban Rio is the only Mexican restaurant that delivers a celebration of both sides of the Rio Grande Valley through cuisine, cocktails and coolness. Opened in 2012 by restaurateurs Nathan and Bonnie Shea, Urban Rio is located in the original Plano Ice House in Historic Downtown Plano. The chef-driven menu offers unique and traditional menu items created by Urban Rio’s executive chef, Fernando Torres, under the leadership of World Master Chef Salvatore Gisellu of Urban Crust. The menu was created with heavy focus on use of fresh produce and items made from scratch – down to grinding corn for tortillas, freshly muddled fruit for cocktails and homemade, flavored marshmallows for their signature s’mores dessert.

Urban Rio features a full-service upstairs bar, On the Rocks Cantina, that, on beautiful days and nights, features opened garage doors and panoramic views of the city. On the Rocks features 14 beer taps, eight frozen liquor taps, handcrafted cocktails and wines. The restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with brunch served on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On the Rocks is open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Learn more at www.urbanrio.com.
