Hebron Varsity Girls Cross Country Team Takes Second At Southlake Invitational

The Hebron High School Varsity girls cross country team finished second in the 6A-5A race at the Southlake Invitational at Meadowmere Park in Grapevine, Texas on Saturday, Sept. 6.  Southlake won the girls’ team title. The Hebron Varsity boys finished fifth in the 6A-5A race. The Hebron Junior Varsity girls’ and boys’ teams finished sixth and 12th respectively.

Hebron freshman Laura Fairchild won the Varsity girls race, her first on the top squad for the Hawks, in 18:25.10. Junior Anna Elkin was second in 18:37.35. Sophomore Amanda Case finished in 17th in 19:25.85. Freshman Abby Riordan, also running her first varsity race, finished 32nd (19:48.31). Junior Hannah Pettigrew was 82nd (20:40.82) and senior Kylee Gorney finished 136th (21:31.26).

“The Varsity girls really ran well today,” said Hebron head coach Jason Grennier. “To have Laura and Anna finish one-two in that race was awesome. Amanda and Abby really stepped up, as did Hannah.  Obviously you’d like to win, but I think we’re getting closer to our goals and getting better, and that’s what we want to be doing.”

Senior Ethan Davis was the top finisher for the Hebron boys, taking 12th in 15:46.82. Senior Michael Summers was 30th (16:10.89) and sophomore Drew Cummings was 32nd (16:11.61). Sophomore Conner Miller placed 85th (17:078.03), junior Mason Richter was 110th (17:27.70) and junior Moshe Eskenazi finished 113th (17:30.53).

“I’m pleased with our effort in the boys’ race, but I think we can improve,” said Grennier. “Our goal is to make it to state. We got beat by three teams from our region today and only four go, so we need to keep working hard and getting better if we want to reach that goal.”

Hawk junior Sarah Fairchild led the JV girls with a second-place finish in 21:07.86. Senior Erica Pagan was 21st (22:00.12), followed by junior Kalindy Cordero (22:12.71). Freshmen Madi Turner (55th in 22:56.27) and Shilpa Thomas (82nd in 23:31.50) rounded out the scoring for the Hawks.

Hebron junior Luke Hoggard was the top finisher in the JV boys’ race for the second week in a row, finishing 50th in 18:56.73. Junior Mason Sheffield was 61st (19:13.01) and junior Matthew Williams finished 101st (20:00.09). Also scoring for the Hawks were sophomore Nathan Cheatham (115th in 20:09.29) and freshman Chandler Clements (140th in 20:28.11).

Hebron next runs Sept. 13 at the McKinney Boyd Invitational at Meyers Park in McKinney.
