The Hebron Varsity Girls Cross Country team won the Plano Invitational team title.

For the second week in a row, the Hebron High School cross country teams captured three of four team titles, this week at the Plano Invitational at Jasper High School on Aug. 30. The Hawks won the Varsity boys’ and girls’ team titles, as well as the Junior Varsity girls’ race. The Hebron finished fifth in the JV boys’ race.

Hebron senior Megan Montgomery ran the three-mile course in 17:33.8 to win the Varsity girls race. Junior Anna Elkin was second in 18:11.7, followed by sophomore Amanda Case in sixth place (18:45.7). Hannah Pettigrew finished 23rd (20:08.4), senior Kylee Gorney was 29th (20:16.7) and senior Erica Pagan was 66th (21:59.4). The Hebron girls won the team title with 61 points, followed by Plano West with 71 and Ursuline Academy with 108.

Hawk freshman Laura Fairchild won the JV girls race for the second week in a row, taking first in 18:03.8. Two additional freshman Abby Riordan and Kaitlyn Irving, were second (19:24.3) and fifth (20:42.8) overall. Also scoring for the Hawks were juniors Sarah Fairchild, who was 10th in 21:11.6 and Kalindy Cordero who was 11th in 21:15.3. The Hebron JV girls won the team championship with 29 points, followed by Plano West with 50 and Allen with 96.

“I am very pleased with the way that our girls ran today,” said Hebron head coach Jason Grennier. “It was good for us to race here, against some of the teams that are new to our District, and see how we stack up against them. Sometimes we get so focused on the District teams that we’re used to competing against that we forget about the rest. This meet gave us the opportunity to see that there are some other strong teams in our District who can also run well. It will help us focus our training going forward.”

Senior Michael Summers was one of three Hawks in the top 10 in the Varsity boys race, taking third in 15:32.2. Senior Ethan Davis was fifth in 15:39.9 and junior Drew Cummings was sixth 15:41.0. Sophomore Conner Miller placed 12th (16:04.8) and junior Mason Richter was 21st (16:35.5). Junior Moshe Eskenazi finished 29th (16:54.4) overall.  The Hawk boys’ Varsity won the team title with 43 points, followed by Plano West with 166 and Dallas Jesuit with 79.

“I hope we can keep it going all year like this for our boys, because we were down a man this week and had a runner who had never scored before step up and do what we needed him to do,” said Grennier. “They went out there and ran hard and gave us what we needed to win, and it was great to see.”

Hebron junior Luke Hoggard was the top finisher in the JV boys race, taking 11th in 17:47.0. Junior Mason Sheffield 13th in 17:52.9. Also scoring for the Hawks were junior Matthew Williams, who was 23rd (18:17.8), sophomore Nathan Cheatham who was 33rd in 18:36.4 and junior Layn Moore who was 64th (19:30.7).

Hebron next runs Sept. 6 at the Southlake Invitational at Meadowmere Park in Grapevine, Texas.
