Hebron Cross Country Teams Take Three Of Four Races At Friday Night Hawk Invite

Hebron High School captured three of four team titles at the Friday Night Hawk Invite Aug. 22 at McInnish Park in Carrollton. The Hawks won the 6A Varsity boys’ and girls’ team titles, as well as the Junior Varsity girls’ race. The Hebron finished second in the JV boys’ race. Decatur won both the 5A-and-under Varsity boys’ and girls’ races. South Grand Prairie won the JV boys’ race.

Hebron senior Ethan Davis was the Varsity 6A boys’ champion, covering the two-mile course in 9:44.07. He was followed by senior Michael Summers in third (10:14.3), junior Drew Cummings in fourth (10:24.1), sophomore Conner Miller in fifth (10:24.9) and senior Brandon Harrison in eighth (10:36.5). Juniors Mason Richter (10:47.9) and Moshe Eskenazi (10:51.9) finished 14th and 16th respectively.

Hebron junior Mason Sheffield was the top Hawk finisher in the JV boys’ race, taking seventh in 11:32.5. Luke Hoggard (11:37.1) and Matthew Williams (11:38.4) were ninth and 10th respectively. Rounding out the top five for the Hawks were sophomore Nathan Cheatham (11:41.1) and junior Layn Moore (12:39.5) who were 10th and 32nd respectively.

The Hebron girls were led by senior Megan Montgomery, who finished second in the Varsity 5A girls’ race in 11:26.3. Junior Anna Elkin took third (12:00.5), sophomore Amanda Case was fourth (12:24.8) and senior Kylee Gorney was tenth (12:54.9). Hebron won the team title despite only entering five varsity runners. The race was won by Abilene’s Ashton Endsley in 11:03.9.

Freshman Laura Fairchild led the Hebron Junior Varsity girls to victory, winning her first-ever race as a Hawk in 11:51.5. Two additional Hebron freshmen, Abby Riordan (12:43.6) and Kaitlyn Irving (13:32.2) were second and third respectively. Also scoring for the Hawks were junior Sarah Fairchild (13:46), who was fifth, and freshman Madeline Turner (13:56.9) who finished sixth.

“It is a long season, and you try not to get too excited or too down, but it’s hard for me to find much wrong with what happened tonight,” said Hebron Head Coach Jason Grennier. “Our teams all competed very hard. We only ran five girls in the Varsity race, but they all ran really hard and we were still able to win.  The Varsity boys had a really good night, doing better than I anticipated this early on, so to see them perform like that so early is very encouraging.”

Hebron next runs Aug. 30 at the Plano Invitational at Jasper High School in Plano.
