Local Gymnasts Get Top Honors At Texas Wide Competition

Several gymnasts from Texas Dynamix Gymnastics competed in the 6th annual Texas Tough Invitational, hosted by The Rock Gym. Over 1600 athletes, representing over 50 different gyms from around the country competed. Gymnasts competing in the Jr. division were Michelle Chen and Gabri Blankson, while Octavia Lewis, Avery Flores, McKenzie Mashaw, Luciana Vasquez and Sara Sweet competed in the Sr. division at the Arlington Convention Center on February 2-6, 2018.

Leading the team were McKenzie Mashaw placing 3rd and Octavia Lewis placing 4th in the all around competition. McKenzie also placed first on floor and second on bars. Octavia won beam and placed 3rd with her floor routine. New to level 3 were Michelle Chen who scored an outstanding All Around and placed 9th in the Jr. division and Sara Sweet with All Around score placing her 9th in the Sr. division. Also new to level 3 are Luciana Vasquez, Avery Flores and Gabri Blankson who had the following vault scores: 9.45,9.4, and 9.55 to earn 3rd place in the team award.

Scores are as follows:

  • McKenzie Mashaw:  37.85 All Around, 3rd place. 1st on floor and 2nd on bars

  • Octavia Lewis:  37.5 All Around, 4th place. 1st on beam and 3rd on floor

  • Michelle Chen:  37.25 All Around, 9th place Jr. division

  • Sara Sweet:  36.05 All Around, 9th place Sr. division

  • Luciana Vasquez, Avery Flores, and Gabri Blankson:  3rd place Team Award

Coach and Owner Cortnee Maestas is proud of the hard work and sportsmanship her girls brought to the competition.  “To see them reach new goals and watch them compete at their personal best is such a huge reward for the time, energy and dedication these girls have put in. I am proud of our gym and the direction we are headed. It’s an exciting time.”
