Prestonwood Christian Academy (PCA) is excited to announce that Senior Randell Holmes has been chosen as one of five finalists for the 35th Annual Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship Award.
Holmes, who hails from Plano, has a 3.85 grade point average and is a winner of the Principal’s Honor Roll Award. He is a member of PCA’s National Honor Society and serves as executive president of the student body. Holmes has competed on the school’s football, track and lacrosse teams and was captain of the varsity football team. As a senior football player, the running back earned 1st Team All-District, 2nd Team All-State and Academic All-State Honors.
Interim Head of School, Mr. John Klingstedt, commended Holmes for his selection as a finalist for the Davey O’Brien Scholarship. “At Prestonwood Christian Academy, our goal is that students would strive to go above and beyond in all things for the glory of God. I commend Randell for how he leads at PCA with character and honor on the field, in the classroom and amongst his family and peers,” said Klingstedt.
The recipient of the Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship Award of $30,000 will be announced Tuesday, Jan. 19. The Foundation will award $2,500 scholarships to each of the four remaining finalists. Recipients of the High School Scholarship Award are chosen on the basis of scholastic achievements, community service, character, leadership and varsity sports participation.
“Randell is a hard worker, a friend to everyone, a leader, and a servant,” said Upper School Principal, Mrs. Wendy Morris. “While football is his passion, he also serves through our Student Government Association as the Executive President. Randell was voted for this position by his peers because he is a friend to all and willing to work for the school. Academics are important to him, and he values his teachers. He loves the Lord and tries to walk in a way to bring honor to the Lord. We are so proud of all that Randell has done both on and off the field.”
The Foundation has distributed over $1.2 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field to leadership in life.
