Students at the Dallas Can Academy Carrollton/Farmers Branch campus can see their future come into focus with the help of the Dallas Indian Lions Club (DILC).  The DILC provides free vision clinics and collects used eyeglasses to fund the purchase of new eyeglasses.  Healthy vision is so important in daily life, and especially for children in school, that the DILC has assisted many youth in obtaining eyeglasses in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch schools.

Freshman Kenia Araiza from Dallas Can Academy was brimming with excitement when she recently received new glasses courtesy of the DILC.  She threw her hands up to her face and excitedly announced, “I can see, I am so happy!”  She had just finished conducting tours of her high school campus during an open house event when she was surprised with the delivery.  Kenia has a few years left in her high school career, but learning will be a lot easier with improved eyesight thanks to the care of neighborhood organizations like DILC.

“We are so thankful for great community partners like the Dallas Indian Lions Club,” said Tony Swafford, principal of Dallas Can Academy. “Children do so much better in class when they can see what is being written on the board or they don’t have to squint to read.  It’s important to knock down all the boundaries we can to help kids learn and that is exactly what the Dallas Indian Lions Club is helping us do.”

Dallas Indian Lions Club is one of the largest Lion’s Clubs in District 2X1 and has been serving the DFW metroplex, domestic and international locations in multiple ways.  DILC has been in existence for more than 27 years and is very active in local charities like Lion Sight and Tissue Foundation, Low Vision and Cancer Clinics.
